Metzger’s has always strived to be a clean and safe food establishment. In addition to our normal stringent cleaning practices, we’ve put into place State and Local requirements and recommendations to combat the spread of COVID-19. Metzger’s takes the COVID-19 prevention measures seriously and do our best to ensure the safety of our guests and staff.
We are meeting the guidelines put forth by the state to open with “Capacity Limits”. Our dining and bar area tables are arranged to meet these guidelines plus we are adding additional outdoor seating.
We follow the Health Department directives throughout our restaurant and educate our staff and enforce all Health Department rules and preventative measures provided by the CDC. Staff wears masks and are health-checked daily. We also ensure our suppliers engage in prudent and preventative measures according to the Health Department and CDC.
We enforce a frequent sanitization plan throughout the restaurant. We have one-time use menus and condiments. Hand sanitizers and wipes are available at the doors and throughout the restaurant.
Thanks to all of our wonderful staff for their hard work during this difficult time. Thanks to all our customers and out of town visitors for your support, your patronage, and your continued trust in us. Our small family restaurant is very appreciative of your business with us.
We are so happy to be able to serve you and looking forward to dining in together in a few short weeks.

For more than 90 years Metzger’s German Restaurant has been an iconic part of the Ann Arbor cultural scene and a reminder of the contributions of Ann Arbor’s early German immigrants.
For all those years, despite political and economic hardships, the Metzger family has served rich, tasty, and traditional German cuisine. Residents of all communities flocked here for excellent food and European ambience.
Today, having spanned four generations of Metzger’s, the restaurant thrives and meets the highest standards of traditional German food.
Since 1928 Metzger’s German Restaurant has served more than seven million guests.
John Metzger (3rd generation), and his nephew, Chef Ryan Dunkelberger (4th generation), along with managers and staff totaling hundreds of years of service welcome you to enjoy Metzger’s. Whether you live in wonderful Ann Arbor, or are just passing through, or attending one of the exciting University of Michigan or area sporting events, we hope you visit Metzger’s – a family tradition since 1928.
